The Greatest Head Coach of the Charlotte Bobcats

The Bobcats joined the NBA in 2004, and are still trying to get on track. There have been four head coaches so far in the Bobcats history and none of them have managed to win a playoff game for the franchise. The greatest head coaches for the Charlotte Bobcats are Sam Vincent, Bernie Bickerstaff and Larry Brown.

No. 3: Sam Vincent (2007 - 2008)

It's not really saying much to include Sam Vincent on the list. He coached the Bobcats for just one season (2007-08) and his team finishe with an overall record of 32-50. The only other coach outside of the three on the list, is current head coach Paul Silas. As bad as Vincent was in his one season, Silas has arguably been worse. There's no question there will be a better head coach to come along and knock Vincent off the list, but it might take a couple years with how bad the team is currently struggling.

No. 2: Bernie Bickerstaff (2004 - 2007)

Bernie Bickerstaff had the difficult task of being the first coach of the Charlotte Bobcats. While Bickerstaff lasted three seasons, his Bobcats never finished with a winning record. Even though the losing couldn't save his job, it is worth noting that Bickerstaff's team showed improvement each season. In his first year the team went just 18-64. In his final season they would end up 33-49. Bickerstaff gets credit for taking over a bad team and at least making them competitive.

No. 1: Larry Brown (2008 - 2010)

Hall of Fame head coach Larry Brown came into Charlotte with the expectation that he could turn this organization around. Brown was able to lead the Bobcats to their first ever winning record and first ever playoff appearance during the 2009-10 season. Charlotte finished up the year 44-38 but were swept by the Orlando Magic in the first round. Brown's run in Charlotte would end in disappointment, as he stepped down the following season after the team got off to a miserable 9-19 start.

Ten years from now not one of these coaches could remain on the list, but when a team has only four head coaches in its history it's not hard to choose the top three and it is even easier when only one of them have carried the team to the playoffs. For his achievements with the Charlotte Bobcats, Larry Brown is the greatest head coach of All-Time for the Charlotte Bobcats.

The Greatest Head Coach for the Utah Jazz

The Utah Jazz became a part of the NBA in 1974, but back then they were known as the New Orleans Jazz. The organization's greatest NBA achievement is two Western Conference Finals in 1997 and 1998. There have been only seven head coaches to ever coach for the Jazz and only two have managed to bring the team to the playoffs. The top three greatest head coaches for the Utah Jazz are Elgin Baylor, Frank Layden and Jerry Sloan.

No. 3: Elgin Baylor (1974 & 1976 - 1979)

Elgin Baylor spent his entire NBA coaching career with the Utah Jazz. Despite his best efforts after being promoted to head coach from the assistant head coaching position, he achieved a record of 86-135. He coached the team in 220 regular season games and with a winning percentage of (.391).

No. 2: Frank Layden (1981 - 1988)

Frank Layden won the Coach of the Year Award in the 1983-84 season and is the only Jazz coach to achieve the honor. Besides Jerry Sloan he is the only other coach to carry the Jazz to the playoffs. Layden coached in 41 careerplayoff games, but his postseason winning percentage was just (.439). He is second on the All-Time list for most regular season games coached for the Jazz with 571, winning 294 of them. Frank Layden is currently the only Utah head coach to have a number retired.

No. 1: Jerry Sloan (1988 - 2011)

Jerry Sloan led the Jazz in 1,673 regular season games, which is the most ever for a Jazz head coach by some margin. He also has the most regular season wins at 1,043 and the highest winning percentage at (.623). Coach Sloan is easily the most successful coach for the Jazz in terms of playoff appearances. He coached the Jazz to 186 playoff games, winning 92 of them at a winning percentage of (.495). Jerry Sloan was the first coach in NBA history to lead a single team to 1,000 wins. The prolific coaching individual has written his name in the history of American professional sports for the most consecutive seasons of coaching the same team, as he spent 21 such season with the Jazz. He was elected into the Hall of Fame as a coach in 2009 and is the only Jazz to receive that honor.

Jerry Sloan labored 21 long seasons for the Utah Jazz and is a remarkable individual whose personality cannot be questioned. Jerry Sloan is more than deserving of being the greatest head coach for the Utah Jazz.

The Greatest Head Coach for the Detroit Pistons

The Detroit Pistons were founded in 1941 and won two National Basketball League (NBL) Championships. Since joining the NBA in 1948 the franchise has won three NBA Championships, the most recent coming in 2004. Since joining the NBA the Pistons have had 42 head coaches. The top three head coaches of the Detroit Pistons are Flip Saunders, Larry Brown and Chuck Daly.

No. 3: Flip Saunders (2005 - 2008)

Flip Saunders coached the team in 246 regular-season games at a winning percentage of (.715), the highest such winning percentage for any Pistons head coach. He had 176 regular-season wins at the helm. He coached the team in the second-most playoff games, with 51, recording a winning percentage of (.588) by winning 30 of them. The team managed to set a regular-season record for wins under Saunders with a record of 64-18 in 2005 to 2006.

No. 2: Larry Brown (2003 - 2005)

Larry Brown brought the third NBA title to the Pistons in 2004. He coached 48 playoff games with the organization at a playoff winning percentage of (.646), which ranks the highest for any Pistons head coach. Larry Brown won 31 playoff games, the second-highest for a coach of the Pistons. Larry Brown's regular-season winning percentage of (.659) is ranked second in team history, as he coached the team in 164 regular season games and won 108. Larry Brown is one of two Pistons head coaches to be named to the Hall of Fame.

No. 1: Chuck Daly (1983 - 1992)

Chuck Daly coached the Pistons in 738 regular-season games, the highest for any head coach of the franchise. He also has the most regular-season wins, with 467 at a winning percentage of (.633). Daly is the most successful coach of the franchise during the playoffs, coaching it to the most playoff games and playoff wins, with 113 and 71, respectively, for a playoff winning percentage of (.628). The coach, who was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1994, led the Pistons to two consecutive NBA titles, in 1989 and 1990. Daly created a team style of physical play and the teams that he coached were eventually termed the "Bad Boys."

Chuck Daly proved to be a blessing for the Detroit Pistons organization. He brought work ethic, discipline, recognition and, most importantly, much-needed success to the franchise in the NBA. Chuck Daly is the greatest head coach for the Detroit Pistons.
